Today, the notion of Information Literacy - the ability to search, critically assess and use information - is well known and widely discussed.

The first of a series of international conferences will take place at Malmoe University, in southern Sweden, on April 15-16, 1999. The conference is called Creating Knowledge. Information Literacy and the Library as a Learning Resource Centre. Concequences for User Education, Design and Library Professions. The Malmoe University Library arranges this conference in co-operation with BIVIL, the department of library and information science of Lund University.

This conference will focus on higher education and information literacy. The conference programme is broad and varied with engaging presentations, workshops and discussions on a whole range of information literacy aspects.

The conference is primarily targeted at librarians, researchers, information officers, IT-strategists and engineers, architects, education and library planners, and students.
